Nancy’s repaired gold-rimmed glasses, the aluminum bat and the recovered camera drive were displayed behind glass beneath a plaque: THEY CALLED HER A PARASITE BECAUSE SHE REMEMBERED WHO PAID. At the opening, Kelsey stood beside her parents while cafeteria workers and veterans entered through the front door. Justice finally belonged to the people once told to remain grateful. Then the corner security camera activated by itself. A live feed appeared from another luxury kitchen in Virginia. An elderly woman sat on the floor beside broken glasses while a man carried identical chemical containers toward her basement. He wore a current military uniform bearing Kelsey’s name. The real Kelsey stared at the screen as the man looked directly into the camera and said, “Colonel, Ryan was only your first husband.”
