Chapter 5 - The Mirror

Adrian claimed the recording was edited.

The ballroom’s mirrored security system proved otherwise.

Samuel requested the event archive.

The footage showed Vanessa standing beside Claire’s champagne table.

She glanced toward Adrian.

Adrian kissed her near the mirrored wall, drawing every photographer’s attention.

While the room watched the betrayal, Vanessa exchanged Claire’s glass with another prepared glass from the service station.

No substance was visible.

No method appeared.

Only the deliberate switch.

Grace had seen it from the staff entrance.

She approached immediately.

Adrian’s face emptied as the video played.

Claire watched the kiss again.

This time it hurt less than the glass.

The affair was ordinary betrayal.

The plan around it was calculated erasure.

Vanessa looked at the guests.

“You are seeing fragments without context.”

Grace replied:

“Workers are always told they lack context when the truth becomes expensive.”

Several servers raised their eyes.

They had spent the evening being treated like furniture.

Now the richest people in the room depended on what one attendant had noticed.

Claire turned toward Adrian.

“Did you marry me for control?”

“I loved you.”

“More than my shares?”

He said nothing.

Samuel examined the proxy metadata.

The document had been created before Adrian proposed marriage.

Claire’s face went pale.

Then Grace noticed a hidden attachment.
