Adrian said the signature was electronic.
Claire demanded the authentication record.
It showed her voice, fingerprint and private legal token.
All three matched.
The guests began looking at her differently.
That was exactly what the forgery was designed to do.
A woman publicly humiliated by her fiancé could be pitied.
A compliance attorney whose own signature approved the transfer could be dismissed as dishonest.
Claire opened her hospital records.
At the recorded signing time, she had been under anesthesia after an emergency procedure.
Adrian had visited her room the night before.
He brought flowers.
He also asked her to approve a harmless insurance update using the hospital tablet.
The screen captured her voice.
The fingerprint reader stored her print.
The legal token remained connected for twelve minutes after she fell asleep.
Adrian looked toward the family attorney.
“I was told the system would close automatically.”
“You were told?” Claire asked.
He had deceived her.
But someone had guided him.
The authentication company belonged to Vale Identity Systems, a vendor hired by the Bellweather board.
Its software allowed executives to approve documents through voice and biometric shortcuts.
Hourly employees needed passwords, security cards and supervisor confirmation to change a work schedule.
Executives could transfer millions by touching a screen.
Mason had warned the board that the system lacked independent oversight.
Adrian called the concern outdated thinking.
Now the convenience had created a perfect forgery.
The trustee suspended every biometric-only authorization.
No family member could approve reserve transactions without employee representatives and independent counsel.
Claire’s signature was removed from the debt purchase pending investigation.
Adrian’s vote was frozen.
Then the hospital tablet log revealed another user.
The forged document had not been uploaded from Adrian’s phone.
It came from the ballroom’s private office.
