Luke’s vote triggered a full ownership audit.
Names of contributors appeared one by one.
Some belonged to current members.
Others belonged to widows, children and grandchildren who had never been notified.
Walt contacted them through the cooperative registry.
Within an hour, phones across Texas began joining the emergency meeting.
A schoolteacher in Dallas learned her grandfather owned two percent.
A nurse in San Antonio discovered her mother’s diner had donated food during the club’s first five years in exchange for one percent.
A retired mechanic’s widow held four percent.
Mason looked increasingly desperate.
“These people have never attended a meeting.”
Lena answered:
“They were never invited.”
The unfairness was simple.
Mason believed absent working-class heirs lost their rights through distance.
Old-money heirs could live anywhere and still collect.
The cooperative attorney verified the deed.
The sale froze immediately.
Mason’s twelve-million-dollar payout disappeared.
The charity and repair accounts entered independent review.
Current members voted to suspend him as president.
He stared at the men who once stood whenever he entered the room.
“You are choosing outsiders over your brotherhood.”
The veteran with the broken van answered:
“My wife is not an outsider.”
The schoolteacher on the video call added:
“Neither was my grandfather when he poured concrete for this building.”
The vote passed.
Mason lost authority.
Walt received temporary control of the property, but he immediately transferred decisions to the ownership council.
No one person would control Iron Ridge again.
Lena felt a wave of satisfaction.
Not because Mason looked small.
Because the people he had treated as invisible were finally visible on the same screen.
