Ethan stared at the dates.
“You were selected.”
Victoria’s face hardened.
“I am not anyone’s employee.”
Leah looked at the payment history.
“No.”
Her voice stayed quiet.
“You were something worse.”
Silence.
“An investment.”
That landed.
That was the first crack.
Victoria looked at Ethan.
“You think I faked everything?”
He did not answer.

Because some questions should hurt.

Ethan went still.
