Gabriel had spent years presenting Margaret as the museum’s moral center. Her signature showed she approved the first transfer from the foster education fund.
A video statement complicated the story.
Margaret said Vivian had threatened to expose Gabriel’s financial crimes unless she cooperated. She believed protecting the museum would preserve scholarships and jobs.
Luis watched without sympathy.
“Powerful people always save the institution first and ask workers to survive the rescue.”
The audit showed Gabriel had used museum endowment funds to cover losses from a failed family investment. He later repaid the principal but concealed the transaction.
“I told myself no one was harmed,” he admitted.
Evelyn answered, “The concealment gave Vivian leverage over every decision after that.”
Gabriel surrendered personal assets for restitution and stepped away from the board.
Then the provenance team examined Elsie’s broken necklace.
The pearls were not ordinary family jewelry. Each one contained a tiny inventory number matching a hidden artwork.
