Chapter 6 - Elena Signed

Elena remembered the document.
Three years earlier, Victor told her Ashbourne needed urgent security upgrades after a series of trespassing incidents.
He placed a summary page before her at breakfast.
She signed between two business calls.
The attached funding schedule was never shown.
But her signature legally authorized payment from the cooperative reserve.
Victor looked almost satisfied.
“You approved it.”
Elena did not hide behind anger.
“I approved something I did not read completely.”
Mrs. Lewis remained quiet.
Elena had been manipulated.
The workers still lost money.
Both facts could exist together.
“I believed him,” Elena said.
Victor smiled faintly.
“And now we finally reach the truth.”
She looked at him.
“No.”
“We reach my responsibility.”
The smile vanished.
Elena placed her personal investment account under review. Any benefit she received through misused cooperative funds would be repaid before she received trust distributions.
She did not call it generosity.
The money had never been hers to donate.
Robert watched his daughter accept accountability without allowing Victor to share her moral space.
Victor had created the false attachments.
Elena had failed to read.
Those were not equal acts.
Hannah opened the security authorization’s metadata.
The original attachment listed the correct funding source: Victor’s private account.
Someone replaced it after Elena signed.
The replacement occurred from the mansion library.
Victor’s login had been used.
But the security camera showed him attending a charity board meeting across town.
Another person had his credentials.
Mrs. Lewis remembered a woman frequently entering the library after midnight.
Victor’s mother, Margaret Carrington.
She controlled the family office until her retirement.
She also believed employees should never own voting property.
The woman on Victor’s phone had warned him not to damage Elena’s face.
Victor finally admitted it.
“My mother prepared the transfer.”
May you like
Elena looked at him.
“But you left me on the floor for it.”
