Chapter 6 - The Daughter Selected Before Birth

Eleanor disclosed that she had once received fertility treatment through a Caldwell-funded clinic.
Doctors told her the procedure failed.
The vial proved her reproductive material had been stored and used without consent.
Claire’s birth records showed a genetic match to Eleanor, but the hospital documents naming her father had been altered.
Marcus’s family had not simply targeted Claire after marriage.
They had tracked her before birth.
Harrison Caldwell entered the townhouse accompanied by state officers still loyal to him.
He claimed the files were part of a legitimate research program helping infertile families.
Rachel shouted, “You stole women’s bodies, stole their babies and called the theft medicine because poor mothers could not afford your lawyers.”
Harrison looked at Claire.
“You were given an extraordinary life. Your mother became a judge. You attended elite schools. Gratitude would be more appropriate than accusation.”
Claire answered with controlled rage.
“You manufactured dependence, then demanded thanks from the people you violated. A beautiful cage is still a cage.”
Eleanor ordered the officers to arrest Harrison.
They refused, saying a local judge could not detain the chief justice without federal authority.
Then Elena Cruz stepped forward with payroll records proving the officers’ family mortgages had been paid through Caldwell shell companies.
Cameras outside were livestreaming.
The officers lowered their weapons and stepped away from Harrison.
Federal agents arrived minutes later.
Harrison was handcuffed in the same foyer where Marcus had tried to control Claire.
The satisfaction lasted only seconds.
Harrison told Claire that the baby she carried was never meant to inherit Caldwell wealth.

The prenatal test showed Marcus was not the father.
He claimed Eleanor already knew the identity of the real man.
