Chapter 7 - The Father Hidden in the Courthouse

Claire refused to let Harrison turn another medical record into a weapon.
An independent hospital confirmed Marcus was not the biological father.
Claire insisted she had never been unfaithful.
Dr. Vale admitted the fertility clinic had performed a procedure during what Claire believed was a routine prenatal examination.
The sample used came from a donor selected by Harrison.
Marcus called Claire filthy and demanded that security remove her from the townhouse.
Eleanor slapped the guardianship folder against his chest.
“You arranged the procedure, planned to steal the child and now want to shame the woman whose consent you erased. You are not a betrayed husband. You are an accomplice furious that the evidence survived.”
The donor record identified federal prosecutor David Shaw, Claire’s former supervisor at the legal-aid office.
David arrived voluntarily and swore he had donated material years earlier under an anonymous medical program.
He had never authorized its use for Claire.
Harrison selected him because David was building a corruption case against the Caldwells.
A child genetically connected to both Claire and David could later be used to accuse them of an affair and destroy two witnesses at once.
Marcus had married Claire to monitor her and control the child.
David faced him.
“You treated a woman’s body like courtroom evidence you could fabricate.”
Marcus spat back, “People like you spend your lives resenting families that built this state.”
David answered, “Your family did not build Colorado. Workers, nurses and taxpayers did. You merely put your name above the entrance.”
Investigators found David’s unfinished case file.
