Chapter 3 - The Missing Freeze
Maya had obtained an emergency federal order that afternoon.
It froze the apartment sale, the employee trust accounts and every company linked to Adrian.
The order had been served electronically.
Yet the transfer remained active.
She opened the court-service record.
The document had been received.
Then modified.
One paragraph had been removed before it reached the bank.
The missing paragraph froze Claire Cole Holdings.
Adrian looked almost amused.
“You arrested me with an incomplete order.”
Maya did not respond to the provocation.
She called the bank’s emergency compliance line and used her credentials to suspend the transfer manually.
The countdown stopped at eleven seconds.
Claire exhaled.
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“You just interfered with a lawful transaction.”
Maya placed the phone on the table.
“The court will decide that.”
Claire sat beside Eleanor.
Her wrists were red from Adrian’s grip, but she remained composed.
Maya asked what happened before she arrived.
Adrian had invited Claire to the penthouse for what he called a private reconciliation dinner.
Their marriage had been deteriorating since she discovered missing employee funds.
He promised to show her proof that the housing sale would benefit residents.
Instead, he locked the elevator.
He removed her phone.
Then he placed the tablet against her hand while an older female witness watched.
Eleanor had been brought there for a different reason.
Adrian wanted her to sign a resident-consent statement.
When she refused, he told her no judge would believe a retired housekeeper over a real-estate executive.
Claire intervened.
Adrian forced her to the floor.
“He said my resistance would prove I was emotionally unstable,” Claire said.
Maya examined the tablet.
A prepared medical petition described Claire as impulsive, paranoid and unable to manage complex assets.
It had been written two weeks earlier.
Adrian had planned both outcomes.
If Claire signed, he received the buildings.
If she refused, he would seek control over her finances.
Then Eleanor opened her payroll book.
