Richard Whitmore arrived in a tuxedo—calm, composed, untouched by scandal.
To him, this was business.
He claimed the guardianship protected the company from Emma’s “kind.”
People who “marry for opportunity.”
Emma heard every word.
Her mother had worked double shifts just to give her a future.
Yet Richard called that sacrifice greed.
He revealed the truth:
They needed Emma afraid—before midnight.
Before the wedding trust activated.
If she signed a medical proxy, control of her unborn child’s shares would transfer to the Whitmore board.
Emma refused.
Richard leaned closer.
“Your parents’ bakery lease… gone by morning.”
Then everything shifted.
A hospital social worker opened Emma’s file.
A psychiatric hold had been approved—under Daniel’s name.
Daniel never signed it.
Yet the authorization came from his private phone.
