Chapter 6 - The Maid’s Authority
Victoria laughed.
“The maid?”
Leah did not.
She looked frightened.
The authority did not make her rich.
It did not give her Eleanor’s shares.
It allowed her to freeze sales, protect employee funds and prevent Eleanor from being removed until an independent review was completed.
Eleanor had added Leah’s name after her last hospitalization.
The wealthy relatives visited for fifteen minutes.
Leah stayed three nights.
Victoria looked toward Arthur.
“You cannot let household help control family assets.”
Leah answered before he could.
“I do not control them.”
“The trust controls them.”
“And for once, it requires someone outside your family to say no.”
Leah opened the trust portal.
Victoria moved closer.
“If you press that button, every investor in this room will remember what you did.”
Leah looked at the guests who had watched Mrs. Harrington recoil in fear.
“They already remember what I did.”
She selected the emergency protection order.
The private club transfer froze.
The apartment sale froze.
Family distributions connected to the stewardship fund froze.
Employee wages, health plans and housing maintenance remained active.
Victoria’s phone began displaying failed transactions.
Her annual foundation payment had been suspended.
She stared at Leah.
“You froze my money.”
“No.”
Leah’s voice was steady.
“I separated it from theirs.”
For the first time, the housekeeper’s daughter stood beneath the Harrington chandeliers while a socialite waited for her decision.
