Nora did not deny receiving the payments.
She explained that Maria had asked her to create a private emergency fund before her death.
The money helped Eli pay rent, buy medication, and continue piano lessons after Daniel died.
Nora disguised the transfers because Victoria monitored every account connected to Maria’s known friends.
She used her own name to keep the money moving without exposing Eli.
The ballroom guests looked at Nora differently now.
Some saw deception.
Eli saw the woman who had paid his music-school fees while the Ashfords spent millions preserving Maria’s piano as a decorative relic.

Why had a check been deposited after Maria’s death?
Nora said she had not touched the account in eight months.
The bank footage showed a woman wearing Maria’s old coat entering a suburban branch.
Her face was hidden beneath a wide hat, but the guitar-shaped birthmark was visible on her wrist.
Vincent insisted Maria must be alive.
Eli’s expression hardened.
He had held his mother’s hand when she stopped breathing in a Milwaukee hospital.
He identified her body.
He attended the funeral.
The woman in the footage could not be Maria.
Unless the person who died beside him was not the woman the Ashfords knew.
Judge Pierce opened Maria’s sealed medical file.
Her blood type did not match the type recorded at Eli’s birth.
The birth certificate remained genuine, but the hospital record had been altered.
Rosa remembered Maria once mentioning a younger half-sister.
The girl had been born to an Ashford housemaid and quietly removed from Chicago.
Victoria denied it.
Vincent demanded the truth.
After a long silence, she admitted her husband fathered another daughter with a hotel pianist named Elena Cole.
The child was raised under Maria’s protection.
Her name was also Maria Cole on several unofficial records.
Two women had shared one identity to keep the younger sister hidden from the Ashford family.
Eli’s mother may not have been Vincent’s sister.
Then the bank released a clearer image.
The woman withdrawing money looked directly at the camera.
