Chapter 10 - The Next Call

Elena confessed that at twenty-two she signed a blank guardianship form after Harwood attorneys promised treatment for Claire.

The document removed her daughter and moved worker funds into a family trust.

Her poverty had been used as leverage and evidence against her.

Claire refused to excuse the signature or let Evelyn turn exploited women against one another.

The employee council took control of Harwood Holdings, sold family estates and restored pensions to workers.

Marcus received prison time.

Judge Nolan and several guardians were charged.

Evelyn lost the company and mansion protecting her reputation.

Claire remained Lily’s sole guardian and placed the child’s shares into a worker-managed trust.

Months later, Lily slept safely while rain touched the window.

The black phone remained on her nightstand.

Then it rang.

A child whispered, “My mom is scared. They said you know how to help.”

The call came from another Harwood mansion—one investigators had never found.
