Chapter 6 - THE PUBLIC DISGRACE.

Sirens grew louder outside the mansion.
Black SUVs and marked police cruisers rushed through the gates, tearing across Vivian’s immaculate landscaping. Red and blue lights flashed against the windows and illuminated her terrified face.
“This cannot be happening,” she muttered. “I took Maya in. I fed her. I gave her a roof.”
“You locked her inside an unheated attic and forced her to work as an unpaid servant while stealing millions from her inheritance,” Arthur said.
Two associates moved beside Vivian, blocking her path to the staircase.
Federal agents entered through the open doors.
Behind them, the mansion staff gathered in the hallway. The maids, cooks and drivers whom Vivian had belittled for years watched in stunned silence.
They had seen her torment Maya but had feared losing their livelihoods if they spoke.
Now they watched the supposedly untouchable matriarch become trapped in the corner of her own stolen mansion.
“I know my rights,” Vivian declared. “I will leave on my own.”
An agent removed a pair of steel handcuffs.
The sharp metallic click echoed through the room as they closed around her wrists.
