Chapter 3 - THE HOUSEKEEPER NOBODY SEARCHED FOR.

Maria was found safe but locked inside the servants’ apartment.
The estate manager told police she had “probably returned to Mexico.”
Maria had never lived there.
No missing-person report existed because a wealthy employer’s assumption became fact.
Maria revealed that Emily’s mother, Caroline, had investigated the Hawthorne Family Foundation before her crash.
It promised help to grieving widows and families, then used private medical records to pressure them into selling homes below value.
Caroline planned to expose the scheme.
Three days later, her brakes failed.
Lucas had accepted the accident ruling because Victoria’s brother, Nathan Hale, was county prosecutor.
Maria played Caroline’s final voicemail:
“If anything happens, protect Emily from the woman in black.”
Victoria called Maria a resentful servant chasing money.
Maria placed a silver earring on the table.
“I found this inside Caroline’s car.”
It matched Victoria’s pair.
Before Lucas could question her, the gates opened.

Nathan arrived with deputies and an emergency order removing Emily from Lucas’s custody.
The order claimed the tattooed father—not Victoria—was the danger.
