Emily asked, “Did our house come from theirs?”

Lucas could not lie.
“Yes.”
He placed the mansion into a restitution trust and opened every acquisition file.
His board called the decision emotional.
Executives warned that returning homes would hurt investors.
“Investors did not sleep in them,” Lucas replied.
Employees revealed they had reported suspicious deals for years.
A junior analyst, David Kim, was demoted after identifying the Hale connection.
Lucas restored his title.
David refused gratitude.
“You are correcting your own failure.”
Caroline found the foundation’s ledger.
It listed every targeted family.
Emily’s name appeared at the bottom:
