Nathan’s petition described Lucas as unstable, aggressive, and linked to organized crime.
His tattoos honored Marines lost under his command.
The court presented them as proof of danger.
Victoria’s hidden surveillance was called responsible monitoring.
Emily’s terror was called manipulation by her father.
Nathan ordered child services to place her with Victoria.
Lucas stood in front of his daughter.
“She stays with me.”
Nathan warned that resisting would confirm the allegations.
Then Detective Lena Brooks arrived.
She checked the filing time.
The custody petition had been drafted two weeks before the storm.
It predicted a foyer confrontation, Emily crying, and Lucas refusing to surrender her.
The emergency had not happened.
It had been scheduled.
Lena suspended the transfer.
Nathan threatened her career.
“That is not legal authority,” she replied.
Emily then remembered the woman crying behind the wall was not Maria.
The voice called her “Little Star,” a name only Caroline used.
Lucas stared toward the staircase.
Caroline’s funeral had been closed-casket.
