Chapter 4 - THE NURSE THEY CALLED DISLOYAL.

Maria had worked at Hale Medical Group for seventeen years.
She was fired after questioning why Claire’s medication records changed overnight.
Victoria told the staff Maria had become emotional and unprofessional.
The real reason was simpler.
Maria had noticed that wealthy patients received privacy while poor patients received suspicion.
When uninsured mothers missed appointments, the hospital called them irresponsible. When Hale executives altered records, the hospital called it administration.
Maria used her old emergency code and opened the door.
Marcus tried to stop her.
She stepped aside as two hospital security officers entered.
Victoria immediately ordered them to remove Maria.
The guards hesitated.
Their employer was Hale Medical Group.
Their salaries came from Victoria’s company.
But Maria held up a printed medication log showing Marcus ordered a dangerous sedative for Claire without an examination.
One guard lowered his hand.
The other reached for Maria’s badge.
Lily shouted, “She’s telling the truth!”
The first police siren stopped outside the building.
Victoria calmly informed security that anyone helping Maria would lose their job before sunrise.
Then the younger guard looked at Lily.
“My mother cleans this hospital,” he said.
He unlocked the room instead.

But when Maria bent beside the bed, Claire was gone.
Only the memory card remained.
