Rafael admitted planting the necklace in Simone’s locker.
He believed a public theft case would force regulators to inspect Bellamy’s training program and discover the stolen worker shares.
Instead, Bellamy controlled the police, the judge and the newspapers. Simone went to prison while Rafael disappeared.
Simone faced him by video.
“You chose my humiliation because you believed your cause was larger than my life.”
Rafael did not ask forgiveness.
“I was desperate and wrong.”
No victim stood above accountability. Eleanor, Judge Pierce and Bellamy executives were charged with fraud, labor violations and conspiracy. David, Elena, Claire and Rafael testified without immunity for their own choices.
Bellamy became a worker-and-former-inmate cooperative. Royalties, pensions and design credits were restored.
The replica necklace and Maya’s backpack were displayed beneath glass.
A plaque read:
“THEY SAW HER CLOTHES AND CALLED HER A THIEF BECAUSE THEIR FORTUNE COULD NOT SURVIVE VERIFICATION.”
At reopening, the case unlocked itself.
Inside lay a second teardrop necklace and a current photograph of Simone wearing it.
