Chapter 9 - Rosa’s Signature
Lily looked at the page.
“My mother would never approve that.”
Richard opened the notarization record.
Rosa had entered Malcolm’s office.
Signed the Meridian Crown certificate.
And received a ten-million-dollar payment into a private account.
Victoria almost smiled.
“So the heroic employee took money too.”
Lily’s hands trembled.
She had spent her mother’s final months choosing between medication and rent.
There had never been ten million dollars.
The receiving account used Rosa’s name but belonged to a Sterling family foundation.
Money entered.
Performed the role of a bribe.
Then returned to the family three days later.
The signature remained.
The account balance disappeared.
Lily looked at Richard.
“You created a greedy version of my mother on paper.”
He did not answer.
The council compared the signature with Rosa’s employment records.
It was authentic.
But the page beneath it had been replaced.
Rosa believed she was signing an independent audit request.
Transfer paper copied her signature onto the Meridian Crown certificate underneath.
A hallway camera showed Malcolm arranging the stack.
Richard waited inside the office.
Ethan watched the footage.
“You both knew.”
Richard answered calmly:
“Rosa would never cooperate voluntarily.”
“So you used the signature she gave while trying to expose you.”
The council invalidated the certificate.
Rosa’s name was cleared publicly.
Every hotel and agency receiving the old accusations would receive a formal correction.
Her pension and medical benefits were restored to her estate.
The money would pass to Lily without a confidentiality agreement.
Lily requested that most of it fund legal services for employees facing retaliation.
She kept only what her mother had been owed.
Not charity.
Wages.
Benefits.
Damages.
The ballroom photographer quietly removed the family-only seating sign from the head table.
Employees took seats beside investors for the first legitimate ownership meeting in company history.
Then the digital auditor examined Richard’s recording.
The voice was real.
The location was not.
