Victoria admitted finding the hidden compartment that morning.
She had planned to destroy the ledger after Elena signed the confession.
Instead, she placed it in a waterproof case beneath the pool canopy track.
When the cover closed, the mechanism would crush the case and flood the contents.
The pool incident was not merely an attack on Elena.
It was an evidence-destruction plan disguised as a mechanical emergency.
Adrian looked at her in disbelief.
“You risked two lives to destroy paper.”
Victoria replied, “That paper could destroy thousands of livelihoods.”
Arthur’s voice hardened.
“No. It could destroy the people stealing from them.”
The maintenance team stopped the canopy and removed the track panel.
The waterproof case was still intact.
Inside were payroll records, property transfers, clinic payments, and signed instructions from Vale executives.
The documents proved that disaster-relief money had financed mansions, political donations, and private security operations.
They also showed that Elena’s father had never accepted the settlement personally.
His signature was forged after his death.
The recording had been assembled from separate audio files.
Elena closed her eyes.
For years, she had believed her father might have surrendered the workers.
Victoria had manufactured even his shame.
Federal agents arrived.
Victoria was detained for fraud, coercion, evidence tampering, and conspiracy.
Then the lead agent examined the ledger.
One page contained Adrian’s signature approving a waterfront land purchase.
The property belonged to families still waiting for rebuilding funds.
Adrian recognized the signature.
This time, it was real.
Elena looked at him.
