Chapter 9 - THE MAN WHO SIGNED AWAY A NEIGHBORHOOD.

Adrian admitted approving the land purchase as part of a luxury coastal development.
Lucas described the properties as abandoned storm-damaged parcels.
Adrian never visited the neighborhood.
He never met the homeowners.
He never asked why land valued at millions had been acquired for almost nothing.
Elena did not let him call that ignorance innocent.
“You had attorneys, assistants, and every reason to investigate. Those families had damaged roofs and thirty days before foreclosure.”
Adrian resigned as chief executive on the spot.
Victoria laughed from beside the federal agents.
“You surrender power to impress a woman who will never trust you again?”
Adrian looked at Elena.
“I am not resigning to earn her. I am resigning because I signed what harmed them.”
The land transactions were frozen.
The affected properties would be returned or compensated through the sale of Vale estates, investment shares, and private aircraft.
Rosa and the mansion staff joined an interim oversight board.
Arthur surrendered his own voting rights, admitting he had opposed Victoria only after the fraud threatened his control.
Caroline and Lucas were detained when their plane was forced to return.
At the hearing, Victoria called Elena vindictive.
“You came into our home and destroyed a family.”
Elena placed Miguel’s ledger on the evidence table.
“My family rebuilt your properties. You came into our disaster and called it opportunity.”
The judge denied bail.
Then investigators opened the final sealed section of the ledger.
It contained Elena’s birth certificate.
