Margaret claimed Caroline lost the second pregnancy after the balcony fall.
Rosa shook her head.
“She gave birth at the private clinic seven months later.”
The family had announced Caroline’s death before the child was born.
She survived the fall long enough to be confined, isolated, and forced to surrender both her identity and her baby.
The physician’s records described her as delusional because she insisted the mansion belonged to Beatrice’s descendants.
Truth had been turned into diagnosis.
Resistance had been turned into illness.
Grace’s voice trembled.
“You locked a pregnant woman away because she could prove you were stealing.”
Margaret replied, “I protected hundreds of employees from a family collapse.”
Eli laughed bitterly.
“My father died without the pension you stole to protect us.”
The clinic file showed the second baby was a girl adopted by a Whitmore donor family in Savannah.
Her name was changed to Evelyn Hart.
Julian recognized it.
Evelyn Hart was the estate attorney who had arrived carrying the adoption records.
She had spent fifteen years representing Margaret without knowing Margaret had erased her mother.
Evelyn’s face went white.
Margaret tried to regain control.
“You have been compensated generously.”
Evelyn looked at her.
“You paid me with money taken from my grandmother’s trust.”
Then she opened her briefcase and removed a sealed court filing.
She had already petitioned to freeze the estate.
But the filing contained one unexpected signature.
Grace had supposedly waived all inheritance rights six months earlier.
