Chapter 7 - THE SISTER THEY BURIED TOO SOON.

The hospital bracelet came from a private recovery center in North Carolina.
Claire survived the highway crash with serious injuries and memory loss.
Margaret arranged the transfer and announced her death before she regained full awareness.
She claimed it protected Claire from the scandal surrounding Daniel’s investigation.
In reality, it removed the only adult who controlled Lily’s shares.
Michael stared at his mother.
“You let me bury an empty casket.”
Margaret insisted Claire later chose to remain hidden.
The recovery center records told another story.
Claire repeatedly requested contact with Michael and Lily.
Every request was denied by the Carter attorney.
Her medical notes described her as paranoid whenever she mentioned scholarship theft or Daniel’s lift.
The same language now appeared in the petition against Lily.
Poor workers were negligent.
Women with evidence were unstable.
Children who remembered were dangerous.
Amanda tried to leave.
Security stopped her at Michael’s order.
The hospital confirmed Claire had disappeared from the center one month earlier.
Someone had collected her using a Carter Foundation vehicle.
The driver signed only one name.
Margaret Carter.
Then the foyer doors opened.
A thin brunette woman stepped inside.
Lily whispered, “Mom?”

Claire looked at Michael.
“Ask Amanda why she knew I was alive.”
