Chapter 1 - THE QUESTION THAT SILENCED THE TABLE.

Lily Price was the youngest person at the gala, but she was the only one willing to ask the question every adult feared.
She sat beneath the crystal chandelier in a white lace dress, her small hands folded beside a gold-rimmed plate.
Across from her, Claire rested one hand on her pregnant belly while Daniel avoided looking directly at either of them.
The Price family had spent the evening discussing legacy, reputation, and the future of their billion-dollar holding company.
Lily waited until the speeches ended.
“Why did Uncle Daniel say your baby is his?”
Every glass at the table stopped moving.
Claire’s polite smile disappeared.
“Lily, you misunderstood.”
Daniel leaned forward, his jaw tightening.
“That is not what I said.”
Victoria Price, the family matriarch, stared at Lily as though a child from the wrong branch of the family had violated an invisible rule.
“Stop lying at this table!”
Several guests turned toward Lily, waiting for her to cry.
She did not.
Lily’s mother, Emma, had taught her that wealthy adults often became loud when the truth entered a room without permission.
“I recorded it on Mom’s phone,” Lily said.
Daniel froze.
Victoria immediately demanded the device.
She claimed children imagined things and repeated conversations they did not understand.
Lily looked directly at Daniel.
“Then ask him why he deleted the message.”
Claire’s hand tightened over her belly.
Daniel opened his mouth, but no explanation came.
Before Victoria could call security, Lily calmly pointed toward the empty chair beside her.
“Mom already sent the recording to someone else.”
The dining-room doors opened.
Emma Price walked in wearing a simple blue dress instead of a designer gown.

She held no phone.
She carried a sealed legal envelope.
