Claire’s mother, Evelyn Moore, had worked as a senior administrator in the Price medical network.
She came from a middle-class family and spent years trying to gain acceptance among the people Victoria invited to private dinners.
Victoria never treated her as an equal.
She treated her as useful.
The second recording revealed that Evelyn helped Daniel access the original paternity test.
In return, Daniel promised to appoint her to the medical foundation’s board and pay off her mortgage.
Evelyn had told Claire that Ethan planned to abandon her.
She encouraged her daughter to trust Daniel and sign whatever documents protected the baby.
Claire had believed her own mother was trying to help.
Instead, Evelyn had traded her daughter’s fear for proximity to wealth.
When called on speakerphone, Evelyn initially denied everything.
Mr. Bennett played the recording.
Her silence became a confession.
Claire’s humiliation was different from the shame Victoria tried to impose.

She was devastated that her mother believed acceptance by the Prices was worth betraying her.
Victoria attempted to use the revelation to defend herself.
She claimed class ambition made people like Evelyn dangerous.
Emma stopped her.
“You offered the reward because you believed she could be bought.”
Both women had participated.

Claire instructed the medical network to preserve every access record.
Evelyn’s board appointment was canceled before it began.
Daniel’s falsified report was referred to investigators.
Emma then used Lily’s proxy to propose emergency repayment of the employee retirement funds.
The motion required the sale of Victoria’s Palm Beach estate, Daniel’s private aircraft share, and several Price luxury properties before any worker absorbed a loss.
Victoria called the proposal vindictive.
Ethan called it repayment.
The independent board approved it.
Lily watched the woman who had ordered her to stop lying lose control of the fortune built on other people’s silence.
Then Martin Cole opened a sealed envelope left by Thomas Price.
The instructions said it could be read only if Victoria ever used Lily’s trust without Emma’s permission.
Victoria stood abruptly.
“You have no authority to open that.”
