Chapter 8 - THE BOARD THAT VOTED BEFORE HE KNEW.

The emergency board meeting had taken place at six in the morning.
Julian used statements from Sloan, a private physician, and three senior executives to claim Ethan had become paranoid after reviewing old housing files.
The tablet in the tea was supposed to reinforce the story when Ethan appeared confused later that morning.
By the time Lily stopped him, the legal transfer was already complete.
Julian controlled Blackwood Holdings.
He smiled again.
“You can tell every story you want. The board followed the documents.”
Margaret asked who selected the board.
Most directors were longtime friends, donors, and investors who benefited from Blackwood developments.
Several owned property companies receiving contracts after low-income residents were removed.
Their independence existed only on paper.
Ethan called the board chair on speakerphone.
The chair expressed concern for Ethan’s health and advised him to cooperate with treatment.
He did not ask whether Ethan had been examined.
He did not ask why a five-year-old found medication in his tea.
The board preferred a convenient diagnosis to an expensive investigation.
Margaret invoked the founder’s morality clause.
Any transfer obtained through medical fraud could be suspended by the majority beneficiary.
Julian argued that she was legally dead and could not vote.
Victor produced his restored identity documents.
As the original controlling shareholder, he could demand an immediate review.
Sloan said Victor’s rights expired decades earlier.
Then Anna stepped forward with a file she had taken from Julian’s office.
She had found it while delivering breakfast.
The document showed Sloan filed a private correction restoring Victor’s legal identity two years earlier.
The correction had been sealed.
Julian had known Victor was alive.
He continued claiming the inheritance anyway.
The kitchen staff stared at the man who had treated them as ignorant.
His scheme had been exposed by a maid carrying coffee.
Anna placed the file beside the cup.
“People notice things when you act like they are invisible.”
Julian’s board authority was suspended pending review.
His expression collapsed.
Then Sloan reached for his phone.
“I warned you this would happen,” he told Julian.
A hidden speaker activated inside the kitchen.

The board chair’s voice replied, “Then begin the second plan.”
A lock clicked somewhere beneath the mansion.
