Chapter 3 - THE DOCTOR WHO ERASED TWO LIVES.
Charles Mercer appeared by video from a private clinic in Virginia. He admitted surviving the plane crash that supposedly killed him and entering a family protection program.
Ethan’s voice hardened.
“You hid my wife, delivered my child and let me bury an empty coffin.”
Charles claimed Anna had discovered financial crimes inside the Mercer Foundation and feared Ethan would choose the family over her.
Anna had asked him to conceal Lily until the evidence was safe.
Ethan looked at the child.
“She decided I could lose seven years without even being asked?”
Ruth refused to let Charles turn secrecy into heroism.
“Protection without consent is still control.”
The foundation records showed Anna had been investigating wage deductions taken from cooks, drivers, maids and groundskeepers during the family’s bankruptcy. Those workers were promised shares in the mansion and hotel company.
Instead, Eleanor declared the trust dormant.
Lily’s birth activated Anna’s deciding vote.
