THE HEIRESS THEY HUMILIATED. / Chapter 1 / 10

Chapter 1 - THE CHAIR THEY PULLED AWAY.

Ella Ward understood the Price family’s opinion of her the moment Blair dragged the chair from behind her.

The ivory engagement dress caught at Ella’s knees as she dropped, but she grabbed the edge of the long dining table before her body struck the floor.

Crystal glasses rattled.

Several guests gasped.

No one moved to help.

Blair stood behind the empty chair in a red satin gown, smiling as though humiliating another woman were part of the evening’s entertainment.

Across the table, Owen Price looked down at the woman he had promised to marry.

He did not offer his hand.

“You were never good enough for this family.”

His mother, Vivian Price, adjusted the diamonds at her throat.

“Know your place.”

Ella slowly rose.

She had spent two years allowing Owen’s family to believe her father owned a modest regional logistics company.

She had listened while Vivian corrected her manners, mocked her education, and explained that marrying into old money required gratitude.

Tonight, Ella finally understood that their cruelty had never been accidental.

They believed kindness belonged only to people whose wealth could punish them.

Ella removed her phone from her handbag and made one call.

“Call my father. Cancel the acquisition.”

Mr. Hale, the elderly steward standing near the doorway, stepped forward.

“At once, Miss Ward.”

Owen’s face turned pale.

The acquisition was supposed to rescue Price Industries from collapse.

But before Ella could leave, Blair began laughing.

“You still don’t know, do you?”

May you like

She lifted Owen’s engagement ring from her necklace.

“He proposed to me first.”
