Chapter 4 - THE HEIR WHO HAD NO COMPANY LEFT.

Owen had visited the clinic because Price Industries required an executive health certification before the Ward acquisition could proceed.
The report showed he had concealed a condition that legally prevented him from serving as chief executive until further evaluation.
That alone would not have ruined the company.
The fraud attached to it would.
Owen had submitted his younger brother’s medical clearance under his own name.
Vivian’s foundation paid a clinic administrator to alter the record.
The photograph had been taken by a compliance investigator documenting the meeting.
Daniel Ward had gone there after the investigator contacted him.
He was not sick.
He was gathering evidence.
The guests began shifting in their seats.
The people who had ignored Ella on the floor suddenly wanted distance from the Price family.
Owen accused Ella of setting him up.
She reminded him that he had brought Blair to their engagement dinner, allowed her chair to be pulled away, and threatened her father with stolen information.
No one had forced him to reveal his character.
Vivian tried to regain control.
She said private medical paperwork had nothing to do with the value of Price Industries.
Mr. Hale opened a second section of the black folder.
The company’s largest lenders had made continued financing conditional on Owen’s lawful leadership certification.
If the fraud became public, the loans could be accelerated immediately.
The acquisition was no longer a rescue.
It was an attempt to transfer undisclosed liability into the Ward portfolio.
Ella looked at the man she had loved.
“You didn’t want a wife. You wanted someone to inherit your debt.”
Blair’s face changed.
She had believed Owen would become wealthier after marrying Ella.
Now she realized he had promised her a future built on a company he might lose within days.
Then the dining-room doors opened.
A young man in a simple dark suit entered carrying a banker’s box.
Owen called him a former employee with no right to be there.
The man looked directly at Ella.
“I’m Owen’s brother.”
May you like
He placed the box on the table.
“And Price Industries already belongs to me.”
