Chapter 1 - The Push That Exposed the Will

Emily Hartwell raised the legal folder above the marble landing while dozens of relatives watched from beneath the chandelier.
“These papers prove you forged my father’s will,” she shouted.
Victoria stepped closer in her burgundy suit, her voice dripping with contempt.
“Give them to me, you ungrateful little parasite. Your father gave you a last name, and you still think you earned his fortune.”
Emily pulled the folder back.
Victoria shoved her shoulder.
Documents scattered as Emily slipped down two steps, but Daniel Cole rushed upward and caught her around the waist before her head struck the marble.
“Emily, are you hurt?”
“She pushed me,” Emily gasped.
Daniel looked at Victoria with controlled fury.
“I saw exactly what you did.”
Victoria covered her mouth and lied without shame.
“It was an accident. She is always creating scenes because she cannot accept that her father trusted me more.”
Daniel stood with one arm shielding Emily as security entered.
“Do not let her leave.”
For the first time, Victoria’s expensive smile disappeared.
Emily reached for a signed page beside Victoria’s heel.
It transferred the entire Hartwell estate to Victoria’s private foundation—but the witness signature belonged to Daniel.
Daniel stared at it.
“I never signed this.”
