Anna revealed that Emily’s biological father was Thomas Reed, a factory organizer who helped uncover the stolen pension accounts.
Charles married Anna to protect her after Thomas disappeared during a labor protest.
The Hartwells later convinced Anna that Thomas had died in police custody.
In reality, he had been imprisoned under a false identity after refusing to sign away the workers’ ownership claim.
Emily felt her identity collapse beneath another generation of wealthy lies.
Victoria’s attorney used the revelation immediately.
If Emily was not Charles’s biological daughter, he argued, she had no right to inherit Hartwell assets.
Anna opened her leather case.
The company had never legally belonged to the Hartwells.
Thomas and hundreds of factory workers owned fifty-one percent through an employee cooperative erased from corporate records.
Emily was not entitled because of Charles’s blood.
She was entitled through Thomas—and so were thousands of workers.
The courtroom later recognized the cooperative charter, froze Hartwell assets and transferred interim control to an employee council.
Victoria watched from custody as workers she once ordered through service entrances took seats at the board table.
Emily faced her through the glass.
“You called my mother a servant. Now the people you robbed own the building where your name used to hang.”
Victoria smiled bitterly.
“You still do not understand. Thomas Reed is alive.”
