Chapter 7 - The Family That Manufactured Heirs
Evelyn admitted she had planned for Laura and Daniel to marry after his current relationship ended.
Their combined employee claims would consolidate more than half of Vale Estates under one household she controlled.
Daniel recoiled.
“You raised us as brother and sister.”
Evelyn remained calm.
“Legal records can be corrected. Dynasties require flexibility.”
Laura’s fury silenced the terrace.
“You did not raise children. You cultivated signatures.”
Federal investigators arrested Evelyn for fraud, unlawful confinement and conspiracy.
Guests who had once praised her refinement stepped away as officers escorted her past the same service staff she had humiliated.
Maria watched without smiling.
Handcuffs could not restore her husband or Isabella’s stolen years.
The employee council took temporary control of the estate and opened every payroll file.
Workers voted to remove the Vale name from the company.
Daniel surrendered his mansion, trust and executive position.
Laura refused automatic leadership.
“Justice is not replacing one privileged child with another.”
Then Catherine brought their father back to California.
He entered the board hearing alive and apologized for allowing Evelyn’s system to grow.
Maria confronted him.
“You promised workers ownership, then let your wife erase us.”
He answered, “I was afraid the banks would destroy everything.”
Maria replied, “Powerful people are always afraid after poor people have already paid.”
He placed the original charter on the table.
It granted workers sixty percent ownership.
But the final page named Evelyn as the first employee representative.
