Daniel admitted his signature appeared on the transfers.
He said Margaret placed quarterly investment papers in front of him and described them as routine tax restructuring.
He signed without reading.
Emily stared at him.
“You had lawyers, accountants, and every advantage my father never had. Yet you signed away workers’ money because asking questions was inconvenient.”
Daniel lowered his eyes.
“I trusted my mother.”
“No,” Emily replied. “You trusted that consequences would land on poorer people.”
Margaret smiled faintly, pleased that blame had moved away from her.
But Richard opened the full authorization history.
Daniel’s signature approved the transactions.
Margaret’s code initiated them.
Vanessa’s account received a consulting fee from each transfer.
The scheme required all three.
Vanessa defended herself.
“I was paid to protect the family from public scandal.”
Emily looked around the polished dining room.
“You stole wages, framed a dead cook, and put contamination in dinner. Then you call exposure the scandal?”
Richard ordered every Whitmore account frozen.
Margaret laughed.
“You cannot freeze what no longer belongs to you.”
She produced a trust amendment signed that morning.
It transferred voting control to Vanessa if Daniel was declared mentally unfit or publicly reckless.
The dinner scene had not been designed only to destroy Emily.
It was meant to provoke Daniel into defending her.
