Chapter 10 - The InsiderThe policy had been activated forty minutes earlier.

Not paid.
Activated.
A formal notice had been submitted claiming Claire had suffered an emotional crisis and disappeared after a domestic dispute.
Adrian stared.
“She’s standing here.”
Claire looked at the timestamp.
The notice had been filed after she returned to the mansion.
Someone knew exactly where she was.
Someone wanted an official record suggesting she was unstable and missing.
The same class-based story Margaret had used for years.
Poor background.
Emotional woman.
Overwhelmed by wealth.
Unable to handle responsibility.
Rachel joined by secure call.
“The filing also challenges Claire’s authority over Monroe Labor Analytics.”
“On what basis?” Vanessa asked.
“Diminished capacity.”
Claire almost smiled.
Not because it was funny.
Because the strategy was predictable.
When a powerful woman could not be bought, she became unstable.
When a working-class woman gained control, she became unqualified.
When she produced proof, she became emotional.
Rachel continued:
“The challenge was submitted using Claire’s internal executive credentials.”
Adrian looked at Margaret.
She shook her head.
“It wasn’t me.”
Vanessa checked the mansion device logs.
No access.
The filing came from Monroe Labor Analytics’ headquarters.
Someone inside Claire’s own company was helping the Vales.
Claire called the executive security desk.
No answer.
She called again.
Nothing.
Then a video appeared on the mansion television.
Claire’s office.
Her chair facing away from the camera.
A woman sat behind the desk.
Slowly, the chair turned.
Claire stopped breathing.
The woman looked older.
Gray threaded through her dark hair.
But Claire recognized her immediately from childhood photographs.
Her mother.
The office cleaner who had supposedly died fifteen years earlier.
Margaret went pale.
Adrian whispered:
“That’s impossible.”
Claire stared at the screen.
Her mother smiled.
Then said:
“You froze the wrong family, Claire.”
A document appeared beside her.
The original ownership certificate for Monroe Labor Analytics.
It did not name Claire.
It named Margaret Vale.
Claire’s mother looked directly into the camera.
“And before you take their mansion, perhaps you should learn who paid for your childhood.”
May you like
The screen went black.
