Chapter 5 - Ethan’s Access
Ethan stared at the access record.
“I never touched the carrier.”
His biometric credential had opened the service gate and released the wheel lock remotely.
The command came from his private study.
At that time, Ethan had been greeting guests beside the pool.
Dozens of people had seen him.
Victoria crossed her arms.
“Perhaps someone used his system.”
Maya looked toward her.
“Like someone used my department to sign Bruno out?”
The mansion’s private security platform allowed family members to authorize household movements by voice.
Employees needed badges, passwords and supervisor approval.
The wealthy family needed only a spoken command.
Ethan had approved that convenience years earlier.
“It was supposed to help during emergencies,” he said.
Maya answered quietly:
“Employees are written up for forgetting one password.”
“Your family built a system that believes your voice more than living witnesses.”
The command recording played.
Ethan’s voice said:
“Release Bruno’s carrier for terrace transfer.”
The words sounded natural.
The breathing did not.
Tiny pauses repeated between syllables.
Someone had assembled the sentence from anniversary speeches and business calls.
The voice clone had been uploaded through Dr. Mason’s clinic portal.
Mason denied creating it.
His technology contractor had installed a medical-record system connected to the trust.
Victoria approved the contract.
Ethan signed the final authorization.
He closed his eyes.
“I thought it updated Bruno’s insurance records.”
“You did not read the attachment,” Maya said.
“No.”
The fraud had been planned by Victoria and Mason.
But Ethan’s careless signature gave them access.
He could not claim innocence merely because he had not asked enough questions to understand his own authority.
Ethan surrendered his household security privileges pending independent review.
No family member would retain voice-only control.
Employee representatives would hold equal approval over trust property and animal transport.
Then Arthur opened the funding page for the technology contract.
