Dr. Malcolm Reed arrived with family counsel and insisted Claire suffered delusions after childbirth.
Claire handed police the medication bottles from the blue room. None matched her actual prescriptions.
A hospital pharmacist confirmed the white tablets caused confusion and memory gaps. Malcolm had ordered them before every legal meeting.
Victoria said wealthy families required privacy during crises.
Claire replied, “Poor women are called dangerous when they refuse to disappear quietly.”
The records revealed a pattern. Six women connected to Hawthorne employees had been declared incompetent after inheriting homes or worker shares. Their property later passed to companies controlled by Victoria.
Alexander requested review of every signature he had approved.
Emma removed an old photograph from the backpack. It showed Claire standing with mansion cooks, drivers and housekeepers beside a handwritten sign celebrating an employee housing trust.
Alexander had never heard of it.
Claire looked toward the silent staff.
“Your family did not build this fortune alone.”
