Chapter 5 - THE LOANS ALEXANDER SIGNED.

Alexander admitted approving the refinancing package.

His executives told him the cottages were vacant company housing. He never visited them or asked who lived there.

Evelyn’s voice remained calm.

“Rich men call distance management. Poor families experience it as eviction.”

Alexander froze the loans, surrendered his board vote and placed personal dividends under restitution review.

Victoria smiled as if his failure cleared her.

Claire stopped her.

“His negligence does not erase your fraud.”

The audit revealed the loans financed Alexander’s expansion, Victoria’s private club and Emma’s elite-school deposit.

Emma looked at her father. “My school came from people losing their homes?”

Alexander knelt at her level.

“You did not choose that. I did. It is my job to repair it.”

Then police found a confidential settlement Claire had signed inside the blue room. She had accepted two hundred thousand dollars and agreed never to challenge the trust transfer.

The workers turned toward her.

Claire lowered her eyes.

“I signed because Victoria threatened to take Emma forever.”
