Chapter 5 - The Crash They Buried
Vanessa admitted following Rachel but denied causing the crash.
“She stole payroll records,” she said.
Michael replied:
“You always hide behind workers after stealing from them.”
Gloria, a retired cafeteria worker, arrived with unpaid wage records.
Vanessa scoffed:
“People like you resent success.”
Gloria answered:
“We fed children. Your family billed meals that never existed.”
Police reopened the crash investigation.
Toll footage showed Vanessa’s vehicle behind Rachel’s — but a third SUV struck Rachel’s car.
The vehicle belonged to Judge Warren Hale.
He claimed it was stolen.
The children recalled Rachel warning them:
“The man with the silver watch.”
