Chapter 5 - THE DAUGHTER THEY KEPT IN UNIFORM.

Adrian looked at Maya as if every childhood memory had changed shape.

Elena had raised him during his mother’s long absences. Maya had grown up in staff housing, eating leftovers after Whitmore dinners, while Charles privately knew she was his daughter.

Victoria recovered first.

“Charles made a mistake. Biology does not create belonging.”

Maya’s expression hardened.

“No. Labor created belonging. My mother raised both his children while your family called one an heir and the other hired help.”

Adrian asked why Charles never acknowledged her.

Rosa answered.

Victoria threatened to accuse Elena of extortion and have Maya removed through the family’s private guardianship network.

Charles chose silence to protect his reputation.

Maya looked at Adrian.

“He protected himself. My mother protected me.”

The trust now gave Maya equal voting authority over the mansion and hospitality company.

Victoria warned that employee ownership would frighten investors and destroy jobs.

Rosa replied, “You stole wages, then used our jobs as body armor.”

Then Adrian opened Charles’s final attachment.
