Sarah admitted monitoring Ethan through a private investigator because she feared direct contact would reactivate Harold’s threats.
Ethan did not offer instant forgiveness.
“You protected yourself with information while I lived without answers.”
She accepted his anger and ended the surveillance contract publicly.
The courts restored worker pensions, canceled retaliatory housing debts and transferred the diners into a worker-and-community benefit corporation. Walter, Margaret and the Collins family lost control while retaining only claims the audit proved legitimate.
Ethan was elected to the board but continued waiting tables twice a week.
The silver medallion, empty wallet and paid breakfast bill were displayed beneath glass.
A plaque read:
“HE LOST HIS JOB FOR FEEDING A HUNGRY MAN BECAUSE THE COMPANY HAD FORGOTTEN WHO FED IT.”
During the first community meal, Walter’s black phone began ringing inside the display case.
Ethan answered on speaker.
A woman said, “Mr. Hayes found the wrong young man.”
