Walter said the Lighthouse Society had searched for a worker compassionate enough to lead reform.
Ethan rejected the explanation.
“You risked my job and used a hungry man’s fear as theater.”
Walter replied that Ethan had proven his character.
Rosa cut him off.
“Poor workers prove character every shift. Wealthy founders create tests because they think dignity requires their certification.”
The council voided Walter’s private selection and held elections across every location.
Ethan ran only after the staff asked him, and he received one vote like everyone else.
Sarah testified against Walter, Margaret and both Collins men without requesting immunity for records she once helped maintain.
Federal prosecutors separated pension fraud, wage theft, bribery and retaliation.
Then the genuine security archive revealed Walter had not first noticed Ethan’s kindness in the diner.
For months, someone had sent him videos of Ethan feeding people after closing.
The camera angles came from inside Ethan’s apartment hallway.
The sender was Sarah.
