Chapter 6 - THE FOUNDER WHO CHOSE THE COMPANY.

Sarah joined the meeting by video.
Ethan’s first question was not about the shares.
“Why did you let me believe you were dead?”
Sarah admitted Walter helped her disappear after Harold threatened to charge her with felony theft and remove Ethan permanently.
Walter had promised to expose the scheme quickly.
Instead, he delayed for twenty years while preserving the restaurant chain.
“I believed the company had to survive before the truth could,” Walter said.
Ethan’s voice broke.
“You saved the diners and left a child waiting for his mother.”
Sarah refused to praise Walter for partial protection.
“Fear explains my silence. It does not return Ethan’s childhood.”
She surrendered her beneficiary vote to an elected worker council and agreed to testify about the pension theft.
Then she revealed Margaret had not designed the original fraud.
Walter had created two sets of books during the recession—one for banks and one for employees.
The second ledger kept the company alive, but it also concealed that some workers were never credited for the money they surrendered.

Walter looked down at his crutches.
The founder who had arrived as a victim was also part of the theft.
