Ethan had been ten when Sarah disappeared after a late shift.
Margaret claimed Sarah stole from the charity account and fled before police could arrest her.
Walter’s expression hardened.
“She discovered the company was taking worker pensions.”
Collins produced an old confession bearing Sarah’s signature.
Ethan recognized the handwriting but not the language. His mother never called customers “service liabilities.”
A retired cook named Rosa Alvarez stepped forward.
“Sarah signed after they threatened to place Ethan in foster care.”
Margaret called her bitter.
Rosa removed her wedding ring and placed it beside the ledger.
“Workers sold jewelry to save your restaurants. Your family wore the rescue like an inheritance.”
The hidden drawer contained invoices showing Sarah’s treatment had been paid in full by the Lighthouse Society. Yet workers were told her bills emptied the fund.
One transfer sent Sarah’s remaining share to a trust controlled by Margaret.
Another paid the deposit on Collins’s first home.
