Chapter 5 - THE SISTER DECLARED INCOMPETENT.
The second baby was Naomi Brooks, Jonathan’s twin sister.
Evelyn had been told Naomi died shortly after birth. The record instead showed a transfer to a private rehabilitation home in New Jersey under an alias.
Victoria claimed Naomi required lifelong care and that Evelyn could not provide it.
“You decided poverty meant I had no right to know my daughter was alive,” Evelyn said.
The board contacted the facility. Naomi was alive, medically stable and fully capable of making her own decisions, but her file falsely described severe cognitive impairment.
Her disability trust held millions in hospital shares.
Jonathan understood at once.
“You kept her legally incompetent so you could control her vote.”
Victoria insisted the money paid for excellent care.
A nurse from the facility joined by video.
“Her room was excellent. Her freedom was not.”
Naomi had written letters to Evelyn for thirty years. None had been mailed.
Jonathan asked who signed the annual incapacity reviews.
The physician’s name was Dr. Marcus Vale—Jonathan’s late adoptive father.
