Chapter 9 - THE MAN WHO PROFITED FROM NOT KNOWING.

Richard admitted he approved the development accounts, but claimed Charles told him the pension funds were temporary loans.

He never asked whether employees agreed.

He never met the workers whose retirement disappeared.

His ignorance protected him because the system was built to keep consequences outside his view.

Emily did not let him call that innocence.

“You had the education, the title, the office, and every chance to ask. My mother had one paycheck and still found the truth.”

Richard lowered his head.

He resigned as chief executive before anyone demanded it.

Charles called him pathetic.

Victoria called him disloyal.

Evelyn called it the first honest decision he had made.

The board votes purchased by Charles were suspended.

The apartment sale was frozen.

Pension money would be restored through the sale of Ashford vacation homes, private aircraft shares, and the mansion’s art collection.

Pike was arrested for false medical certifications.

Victoria and Charles faced charges for fraud, unlawful confinement, and evidence tampering.

Emily’s mother was publicly cleared.

Yet satisfaction did not erase the years stolen from her.

Then the independent auditor opened Sofia’s final sealed file.

It contained a birth certificate.

Emily Reyes was not Sofia’s biological daughter.

Her birth mother was Evelyn Ashford.

And Richard’s name appeared under “father.”
