Chapter 5 - THE WIFE WHO WROTE THE FALSE DIAGNOSIS.
Celeste stepped out wearing a white evening suit and no sign of panic.
She saw Ethan on the floor, Lena beside the elevator, and federal investigators entering the lobby.
Then she looked directly at the hospital bracelet.
“You found it too soon.”
Margaret’s face went pale.
Celeste admitted arranging the psychiatric admission but claimed Ethan ordered everything.
Ethan turned on her instantly.
“You begged me to remove Lena. You said Mia’s shares belonged to our future children.”
Celeste’s expression sharpened.
“Our children should not lose their inheritance to the daughter of a banquet cleaner.”
Mia heard every word.
Lena tried to move toward her, but pain forced her back down.
Victor stepped between Mia and the adults.
“Say one more thing about that child as if she is property, and every microphone here will carry it into court.”
Celeste laughed.
“Court? Judges attend our galas.”
Victor replied, “So do cameras.”
The recovered footage showed Celeste planting the bracelet and coaching Ethan on what to say after Lena fell.
But another voice on the recording gave them instructions.
It belonged to Dr. Aaron Pike, the physician who signed Lena’s diagnosis.
He told Celeste to provoke public fear, separate Mia, and secure the trust before midnight.
Then a final message played.
Dr. Pike said, “Margaret already approved the child’s transfer.”
Everyone turned toward Margaret.
