Chapter 7 - THE FATHER WHO CHOSE THE COLE MONEY.

Lena had worshiped her father, Daniel Reed.
She believed he died defending hotel workers in a wrongful-termination case.
The hidden file showed he once represented Cole Hospitality.
When Lena’s mother, Rosa, discovered pension theft, Daniel was offered a partnership if he declared her financially unstable and surrendered custody of their daughter.
He signed the petition.
Rosa escaped with Lena before the hearing.
Years later, Daniel regretted the decision and created Mia’s trust using the legal fees he had received from the Coles.
His inheritance was not generosity.
It was guilt converted into money.
Ethan used that history like a weapon.
“Your own father knew your family needed supervision.”
Lena looked at him steadily.
“My father betrayed us once. You built an empire out of repeating it.”
Victor discovered Daniel had continued investigating Cole guardianship cases until his death.
The official report said he suffered a heart attack in his office.
Mr. Harris found an elevator access log from that night.
Dr. Pike visited Daniel minutes before he collapsed.
Margaret demanded Pike be detained.
Victor said agents had already gone to his clinic.
It was empty.
On the doctor’s desk, they found a list titled “UNFIT MOTHERS.”
Lena’s name appeared twice.
The second entry was dated twelve years before Mia was born.
Beside it were two words:
May you like
“Second daughter.”
Lena had never known she had another child.
