Chapter 7 - The Doctor Behind the Family Name
Dr. Harrison Vale had been presented publicly as Eleanor’s older brother.
In private records, he was Mark’s biological father and the man who designed the family’s medical schemes.
He used false diagnoses to declare wives unstable, employees disabled and elderly relatives incompetent.
Once the court accepted his reports, Eleanor gained control of their money.
Mark had grown up believing power meant never hearing the word no.
Harrison taught him that poor people could be controlled through medicine because illness made them frightened, expensive and easy to discredit.
Laura confronted the doctor outside federal court.
“You made my daughter sick, then charged her trust for treatment.”
Harrison remained calm.
“Families like yours receive opportunities because families like ours create institutions.”
Laura answered, “You did not create opportunity. You created dependence and demanded gratitude from the people you harmed.”
Sophie testified through a child-safe interview, explaining how her father silenced Laura and how Eleanor ordered him to take the papers.
Her clear account destroyed the family’s claim that she had been coached.
Harrison was arrested.
Mark requested a plea deal and offered evidence against his parents.
Laura refused to praise him.
“Cooperation after the handcuffs is not courage.”
His evidence exposed eighteen families targeted through fake medical reports.
Then one name appeared at the top of the list.
DIANE MILLER—MATERNAL FITNESS TERMINATION.
Laura’s mother had not raised her legally.
